main aims of the unit
The main aims of this unit is to assess the students’ ability to bring together general and specialist areas of study as part of undertaking a pre-agreed research project
The unit also enables students to communicate the aims, process, findings and recommendations of the research in a precise format that addresses all the key issues of the research undertaken
The unit will enable students to:
- Prepare a business report of 10,000-12,000 words with precise aims, processes, findings and recommendations
- Demonstrate an understanding of complex problems of great significance to specific organisations or business sectors
- Outline their investigative and analytical skills, standards of data collection and analysis
- Present a postgraduate research-based report and a summary of the research suitable for a business audience

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:
- Communicate the purpose, method, findings and recommendations of the research
- Prepare a professional report based on research findings generated through their own primary or secondary research
- Communicate complex ideas and analyses in their area of research to a professional standard
- Analyse and evaluate aspects of a business issue in a defined context
- Make precise realistic, affordable, theoretically sound, ethical and socially acceptable recommendations
- Provide suggestions for further study or research to expand the work carried out as part of this Business Project

The Business Project must reflect original research and/or creative activity. This document will demonstrate the student's ability to:
- Select a topic which can be studied in terms of time, equipment needs and experimental population or information available.
- Receive approval of a topic by the student's college or awarding body
- Adequately search and review the literature for relevant studies and material on the topic of choice.
- Obtain, organize and analyse data and information that are available, using logical and/or statistical analyses appropriate for the project.
- Integrate in a meaningful way the findings into the greater body of existing knowledge and state its significance.
- Present a manuscript in an accepted form to the satisfaction of the awarding body

Student In addition to the recommended texts and further reading texts of the courses are expected to consult the appropriate journals in their own specialist area. These provide examples of the ways different research designs have been applied in empirical research.

Working through the course texts and completing sections of the project as agreed with the project supervisor or as indicated in the Project Proposal In addition students are expected to undertake further reading using the web and/or libraries.
